adidas Fingerpainting ContestCelebrate Originality
Artist's Comments
Here is Blue(My original character), yeah Blue is her name, you probably seen her in my gallery, so i kinda like her and gave her a name(Kinda like a likable character like art gem's pepper.)
OK, now to the inspiration of this contest piece I wanted to do something that was fresh, ya know like when Adidas became known to the urban world, like in the 80's. It was the time, in my opinion, that creativity amongst the younger generation was at its finest and what was on these creative genius feet during this era?, that's right, Adidas. So i decided to do a character of mine in a 80's setting that included: turntables, city life, b-girl, and she is Djing. The reason why the city is colorful, cause that represents the colors often used in graffiti, the transition from blue to yellow is night and day, and also city life is always moving and vibrate. The night and day aspect is the parting all night long(also represented by Blue on the turntables). Finally the finger painting concept comes in with blue mixing on the turn tables, to me, Djing is an art and the finger painting is as creative as finger painting. Also if you notice the city is suppose to be finge rpainted as well with the finger print marks on the end of the strokes. Well good luck everyone and keep it FRESH! Comments
Tight work my brotha. I like this concept, and the design sense is awesome. The fingerpaint mixed with DJing is creatively fresh.
-- Stylin' *BANetwork Hey bro, I really love the colors you have here. I believe your exploration has improved, and it'll continue to as well.
For some reason, the pose for Blue doesn't feel consistent to me...it feels like she's starting with a straight pose, but then curves at the bottom, not unifying her body posture. That, and the trash can looks flat to me (unless you were intending for it to be flat, then no worries). Just those two things that I think could be pushed more. Other than that, I think it looks smooth. -- I'm sarcastic due to the overdose of reality. but there is no time to submit cause its like 25 minutes before the contest is over I see! O___o Never mind then.
the pose of Blue at the bottom i was trying to do a graffiti effect like she ended with the table, but i guess that didnt get it. What I learned (and still learning) in graphic design, is if the majority of people did not see the concept shown at the beginning...then it's either a weak concept or it's not working where it's presently at. So you could either retry again with the concept, or try a new one. And it happens with a lot of people, me especially. I had a book cover design where a picture frame didn't persuade people that it was a picture frame...rather than try to fight and defend, I just took the dumb thing out. And my cover looks a whole lot better (while editing other parts of it. Thank for the critique as always Anything to help you out my friend. -- I'm sarcastic due to the overdose of reality.
